QotD: Ms. President

Is it likely that the U.S. will have a female president in the near future? In your lifetime? Why?

It's possible. I'm not sure how likely though, it all depends on Hillary, I think if she doesn't do it next year, then it could be a long time before another female candidate with anything like the backing or appeal required comes along.  I don't mind Hillary, I think she'd probably do a pretty good job, but I do think she's got a slightly more authoritarian streak than Bill, which makes me slightly nervous about her. I do wonder, however if the Neo-Con and Republican hatred of the Clinton's will push the grass roots support out against her and the divided Democrat camp might not have the same success at mobilising voters and thus lose out.  I personally still back Obama, and polls seem to show he has more crossover appeal than Hillary with Republicans and Independents.

One country that I would like to see have a Female President come May 6th is France, I'm not entirely anti-Sarkozy in that I think he has some good policies, however, I think political renewal and change would do the republic well, and Royal seems like a very good candidate, assuming that her economic teams sums can live up to the promises she makes. I guess we'll get a better idea of how the land lies with the French Electorate on Sunday.
