Love Pepys. I have a beautiful old copy, with lovely thin paper, pocketbook size. Whenever I pick it up it always has me laughing and I'm compelled to read the best bits out to Mr Shoes.
Oh, Red Shoes! I feel so guilty! I have never got through it. He's cool, but I don't know, maybe trying to read it cover to cover was a mistake. He is, however, brilliant, have you read The Unequalled Self? It's a biography of him, really interesting.
Some parts are really dry and boring it has to be said. It's good for dipping into now & then, just for the good bits. Try skim-reading! I haven't read the biog but I will look out for that one, thanks.
I'll do just that, thanks. I think I may look for the dates when I know stuff was happening too, I'd like to read about the fire of london and the battle with the dutch and things. (Ok, ok, and getting caught with his mistress.)
The fire of London stuff is really interesting and also all his saucy goings on are quite amusing.
I'll definitely take another look then, it's amazing how much he wrote, and thinking it was that long ago!
